The temperature is all over the place here. Later yesterday a Chinook blew in and the temperature went up to 41°F. Last night got down to 17°F and up to 47°F today. The low on the 1st was 46°F with a high of 61°F.

The one on the right in this picture is not a Chocolate. It appears to be fully pearled. Chocolates are semi pearled. These appear to be fully pearled which means they are not Royal Purples.

Fox may carry them off but in the end, they eat the whole thing. Skunk will eat the whole thing but it may take them more than one meal. I shoot the skunk in the trap and start spraying a bout a 15% hydrogen peroxide solution. Most of the skunks I get are upwind of the house and I want rid of...

    We have babies!

At least one person I know has had skunks kill broody turkey hens. I add one capful of Clorox to my bath water. Be careful to not add too much Clorox as the hot water can cause chlorine gas to be released. It does an excellent job of removing the skunk smell. I dealt with skunk #12 this morning.

    We have babies!

I know that when CDs were popular, people would hang them at eye level for a guinea to deter them from going places they didn't want them to go. Whether or not it continued to work once they got used to them is something I do not know.

    We have babies!

I have heard of skunks killing turkeys for other people. The ones here were content to steal eggs or eat newly hatched poults. They were also dining on the layer feed.

They would wake me up in the middle of the night when it was happening.

I close any live traps that the guineas have access to during the day. I reset the traps after the guineas are in the coop for the night.

I didn't have a mouse problem until I started eliminating the skunks. When the skunks started taking eggs out from under broody turkey hens I decided enough was enough.

I have seen hawks eating on the ground or in trees. If the carcass is big they eat where it is. As it becomes lighter, they will move it farther from the site and when light enough will fly off with the carcass. I have no issues with the hawks here because there are plenty of the Collared...

    We have babies!

I am proactive about removing predators inside my compound. Outside of my little oasis, I leave them alone. Without predators the vermin would take over.

Their behavior definitely is different outside of breeding and laying season.

I was laughing at the part about whether the offspring were theirs or not. I seriously doubt that this thought enters their minds. Who knows what goes on in a guinea's mind? I try not to anthropomorphize them. I do know that their attitudes do change with age and other conditions. It...
