The bill sexing for them worked great with my first lot, but all looked like females in my July hatch, I have 3 of them left and 2 are male, so don't count on it! lol. So sorry you lost one :( it's always heart breaking but happens to everyone at some point. You did your best. xx
If it's barely moving and you're getting no response from tapping you may want to try find part of the membrane with few or no veins and open it a little. Have cornflour handy to stem any bleeding. I do not suggest doing this unless you feel the baby is going to die otherwise. In which case you...
If the bill is at the wrong side of the egg, I would suggest very carefully making a small hole as soon as you know where to make it. I think candling it would be a good idea right now. x
OK. don't panic, My first was in a worse state than that and she is a happy healthy bird. Wet some kitchen roll or a flannel with warm water, wrap it round the egg (not completely oxygen still needs to get in). Do not let it get cool. tap on the egg whilst holding it next to your ear, listen for...
If you feel it's struggling to breathe, next time you moisten the membrane try to feel (gently) for the bill. If you find it make a very small hole so it can push it's bill out. It's amazing the strength a bit more oxygen can give them. Only do this if you think it's really struggling though...
I would moisten the membrane with Coconut or similar oil, and wait. if there is still strong visible veins, baby isn't ready yet so it really is just a waiting game. If you feel it's really struggling and likely going to die there is no harm in making a very small hole in the membrane to let air...
As the ambient humidity in the UK at the min is 97% (well here in the lake district it is) I think you would probably be ok to reach in and grab that egg if you are worried. When my last 5 hatched humidity was about 65-70 outside the inc. I had to help one who was malpositioned and it didn't...
