Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

Update: Pebble started paying today too. Have you guys found that when you have pullets growing up together, they start laying at the same time? Having said that, I still have a Wyandotte that seems curious about what the other pullets are doing, but doesn't quite get it, and an Araucana that...

So True. Keen to see how Pebble goes tomorrow... might give her some milk for extra calcium hit to help get the egg out! Thanks LuckysMum

Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

After 26 weeks, today was the first day that any of my pullets have shown any interest in the nesting boxes, and today, they had to be in the same box, big time. Pebble, Australorp (bottom of pecking order) normally avoids Buttercup, the alpha (Light Sussex), but today she was all: "I have to...

Hey Susan, Madge's wattle looks a lot better. She has a lovely, lush isolation cage to recover in!

A couple of things. 1. Does anyone know if Serama bantams have made their way to Australia yet? 2. Hey Susan, Best of luck with Madge. Would be interested to know how that turns out.

Welcome Cathy. :) Congratulations on your new pullets. How exciting! I might try Orpingtons out one day. I worry they won't be as heat hardy as my Australorps, but they look so cuddly! Would be curious to see how they go up there in the QLD heat. :)

Haha. I hope your daughter has recovered. :) Yeah Licorice and Clementine are the ones I'm sure of. Will be sad to see them both go. Licorice is actually my favourite. He's happy to be held, will roost on my arm or shoulder while I walk around the garden feeding him bits and pieces. Clementine...

Hi SarahMonique, I'm pretty new here too, but welcome! Sorry to hear you lost one of your lovely girls. It becomes apparent pretty quickly exactly how social these beautiful birds are. I hope you will find a suitable companion for her and that she becomes happy with the flock until then. I'm...

They are all locked in the coop at night and I do feel pretty secure about it, but I can also see areas for improvement if it turns out that I need to be more vigilant (predator light, more pavers extending out around the coop to deter digging, etc.) Thanks Pjacct.

Hi All, I'm new to the forum and living in Australia (Central Coast NSW, ex Sydney, ex Melbourne, ex Newcastle), so I thought I'd say hi. I had chickens as a child and have recently started a new flock: 2 x Blue Australorps, 2 x Light Sussex, 2 x Lavender Araucanas and 1 Wyandotte. All 7.5...
