Kind of you to say so, actually I make a terrible human being - I'm building a client base familiar with the product I'm offering, and have explicitly told them so. Best that can be said is that I'm honest about it.

Great news!!!! Acceptance of live animals The Postal Service will resume acceptance of live animals on Feb. 26 for air transportation and movement on Feb. 27 following temporary disruptions due to severe winter storms. Link here

USPS embargo on live animals (chicks) through Feb 26, 2021!

Why not both? That's what this year did to me. Just hatched 10, 10 more eggs from today already in the incubator, will check for more to add in an hour, and more than 8 dozen eggs to neighbors in the past week. Plus eggs for my wife and I. Waiting on NPIP certification and a limited license...

...and just like that. I meet all the minimum requirements, the State and I are scheduling a time to inspect and certify me. Waiting on a phone call or email. Eventually, I hope to have something to offer I can describe as other than "mutt". How does "Clay Ranger" sound? Hope no one has...

They don't feed them live? I didn't think hawks would eat carrion - but i'm honestly ignorant on the subject. Eagles will, i know. and the write off is at commercial value, which is less than they sell most breeds for. Quite likely, based on weight, not head count.

The larger hatcheries no doubt have business interruption insurance, as well. It will be the little hatcheries, the ones already just barely hanging on, who will be hardest hit.

USPS embargo on live animals (chicks) through Feb 26, 2021!

USPS is taking a weather related pause, tentatively, for another week. UPS and FEDEX, when they take live critters, only take them for overnight delivery, which is MUCH more expensive, and thus not the preferred shipping method of commercial hatcheries. I've not seen any notice they are...

This is as close as you are likely to get for a widely reported "source", and it doesn't begin to support those claims, which are part truths devoid of context. https://www.washingtonpost.com/business/2021/02/12/dejoys-new-plan-usps-slower-mail-higher-prices-sources-say/ For a WaPo piece, its...

...and thanks to this thread for the impetus, I've sent email to my State contact inquiring about NPIP certification to sell hatching eggs and live birds. Already pursuing the state's Limited Poultry license for human consumption of eggs and processed poultry. Appreciate you all!

USPS embargo on live animals (chicks) through Feb 26, 2021!

Looking up NPIP and licensing requirements for my State now. Not that I'm selling purebreds, or in volumes that TSC would demand. But as I'm already breeding for my own project, being able to legally convey in commerce the majority of birds which don't move my breeding plan forward would be a...

Oh, I didn't mean not have the rooster, I meant don't rent him out!!! I'm all for having a productive rooster on the property, and non productive roosters on the table. I find that works well for me. Less well for the non productive roosters. ;)

better that you not, then. Don't want to accidentally bring Fowl Pox or worse onto your property when a renter failed to disclose, or simply wasn't aware.

and rent it out when you aren't using it??? Do you have space for a large, and distant, quarantine pen after your roo has been exposed to foreign flocks?

USPS embargo on live animals (chicks) through Feb 26, 2021!

They can. Initial set up would be expensive, as Joe's logistics works with the various States, FAA, etc to ensure certification and compliance with existing legislative restrictions and obligations. As a "one off" those costs are too high to be worthy of exploring, thus USPS maintains its...

I'll fix that for you. The Federal Student Loan Program has reported profits for years,. sizeable enough that they appear on CBO budget projections offsetting Gov't spend. That said, the most recent projections (last two years or so) now put them in the red, I've not dug into the why of it -...

USPS embargo on live animals (chicks) through Feb 26, 2021!

Apparently, its regional - some areas only have Spring chick days, others do Spring and Fall, still others do most of the year, and when they start/stop varies as well. (Source: Observation of their FB page, and numerous poster complaints about TSC "Chick Days" advertising on FB when local...

USPS embargo on live animals (chicks) through Feb 26, 2021!

BYC isn't the place for politics, I'm not wading in to correct the mis-statements and historic inaccuracies in the post about corporations and the USPS structure. Neither will I jump into the gloss of the benefits of a for-profit business structure. I do thank the posters for the reminder of...

USPS embargo on live animals (chicks) through Feb 26, 2021!

My local TSCs take chick deliveries from USPS - they get a call just like we do, letting them know a shipment has come in. That's the case at every TSC I've inquired of (admittedly, only four, and all w/i a 150 mi range. While the company may have its own jets and vehicles for inventory...
