    Right, but if the poop doesn't do the trick before you plant, then any nitrogen in the soil would go to breaking down the wood rather than feeding the plants.

    Do you check that the wood shavings have fully broken down before planting? Wood in the soil can be a 'nitrogen stealer', depriving plants of nitrogen.

    Putting a board across inside of coop can help with this, just use a couple screws so it's easy to remove if needed for cleaning. I use a couple of bricks around the feeder for my shorter birds.
