Ha! I use straw flakes, shoved in tight and bowled out a bit, but once they wear down they end up looking like wreaths in the nests. I have to shift them around to cover the back framing.- aart

Yes, 2-4" above the bedding level. Especially new layers, they make a real mess of the nests the first few times they lay.- aart
