What did you do in the garden today?

Hi all! Sorry about those of you dealing with nasty weather. What a pain! Hope it passes quickly. It's been really nice here lately. I've been eating broccoli, various and sundry greens and asparagus. My tomato and pepper seedlings need to get potted up, and I'm behind on starting my other...

What did you do in the garden today?

Sunflowers can grow almost anywhere there's full sun, IMO. I had several that shot up in the yard this fall, from the hens or the wild birds. Go for it!

What did you do in the garden today?

Thanks for the welcome back! :) @Wee Farmer Sarah I put it in my tumbler composter and my regular one. It cooks much quicker in the tumbler. I've got a two-part one, so I put in a bunch, wet it, then work on the other one while the first cooks. I've gotten some good rich compost out of it...

What did you do in the garden today?

Hi fellow growers of things. It's been a looong time--the hurricane kinda kicked everyone's asses and my mom's had a slew of health issues I'm trying to manage long-distance, so I've been off the radar. It's good to see everyone's typing again! So, my neighbor's dog got my head PRB Cleo...

What did you do in the garden today?

Ooh, sorry to hear you've been ill! Hope you're all healed up. I'm looking forward to planting some seeds this weekend; it'll be relaxing. I just need to chainsaw some of the branches laying over the raised beds...

What did you do in the garden today?

Hi friends. Hurricane Florence bitch-slapped the area, but we came out of it relatively unscathed. My son, cats and dragon and I evacuated to my bf's about an hour and a half inland. I locked my chickens in my shed with a ton of food and water, as planned. It was HARD to leave them. My neighbor...

What did you do in the garden today?

Thanks all! The models are all tighter than I've ever seen them. I'm about 90% certain we're getting out of dodge. I'm going to shut my chickens in to my sturdy shed (one small window), with 40 lbs. of feed and 15 gallons of water and hope we can make it for three days. Fingers crossed.

What did you do in the garden today?

Hi all! Well, it looks like Hurricane Florence is coming right at us. Ugh. I really really hope I don't have to evacuate. It's hard to get back afterward. If it's coming in as a Cat 4 though, we're gone. I'm going to lock the chickens in my shed with all of their feeders and waterers full. It's...

What did you do in the garden today?

Yes, I grow my own habaneros, scotch bonnets and thai birdseye. Also Chinese Five-color peppers and this year a variety called scorpion pepper, but only one plant of the latter. I think I have six hab plants, four scotch bonnets (I'll do more next year since they aren't as productive as the...

What did you do in the garden today?

Yeah, we go through a bunch of it. It goes on basically everything savory. :) I have a dehydrator, so I dry some, but I should definitely powder some. Thanks oregonkat! Also, hot pepper jelly is tasty and makes good gifts...

ETA I've never canned it, not sure what it would do to the taste.

What did you do in the garden today?

You're welcome! I love the stuff. You can leave it out of the fridge and it will last for a few weeks, just don't stick spoons in it--pour it onto the spoon or dish instead.

What did you do in the garden today?

Trinidadian pepper sauce! Well, you usually make it with scotch bonnets and/or habaneros, but it would probably work, just not as hot. 7-10 habanero or Scotch bonnet chiles 10-15 garlic cloves, chopped 10-15 scallions, 1-inch pieces. 1 cup water 3/4 cup white vinegar 1 T mustard 2/3 cup...

Oh man--I'm so sorry! That sounds painful. I hope you heal up quickly and that the fires get under control. Hugs!

What did you do in the garden today?

What do you mean about house arrest, penny? Did you hurt yourself? Hope not! I'm not doing a darn thing in the garden except watering the driveway plants and picking ripe stuff, both yesterday. It's HOT and muggy. Luckily, we're going to get evenings in the 60s for the next couple of days (in...

What did you do in the garden today?

It takes FOREVER to germinate, at least it did for me (NZ spinach). Worth it, though. I also grow malabar spinach, but don't like it fresh as much as NZ, because of the succulence factor. Now I need to look up moringa! :)

What did you do in the garden today?

Only 20% chance of storms today--here's hoping. My newbies slept in their new coop last night and it went well! It was very cute--I kept them out until it was getting dark and the bigs were headed toward their normal coop. The littles got agitated and all decided to roost either on me or on the...

What did you do in the garden today?

Made bacon, cheese, tomato, chives, and new zealand spinach toasted sandwiches for lunch yesterday. Yum. I want to grow an avocado tree--that would be the perfect addition.

What did you do in the garden today?

Thanks--I'll try it this fall! (the pickled purslane). I've only ever eaten it raw or quick stir-fried. Those zucchino rampicante squash I was so looking forward to? Rotted, because of all the rain, I guess. Man... Dunnmom, I can't tell for sure, but might be a little big for a cooper's. Do...

What did you do in the garden today?

Thanks from me, as well--lovely! I have great memories of the bougainvillea all over the hillside of of my in-laws' house in Trinidad. So beautiful, and you made me remember it again. Thanks! Pickled purslane--interesting! I'm going to plant some more in the greens bed if it ever stops...
