    Surviving Minnesota!

Speaking of loss of taste. I picked pears today. They look perfectly ripened, have the right firmness, smell ok, but are the most bitter mouth puckering sour thing I have ever tasted. I would rather peel a lemon and eat it.

WD 40 is a great bar lure, but it has never helped me catch a fish. I have used the fish attractants, they work as well as WD40 doesn’t. Unless the fish is attracted to black licorice. I prefer live bait for most fish. I will use rappalas and mr twister tails in walleye. Northerns...

    Surviving Minnesota!

This house has been insured with the same company for 65 years, one claim to my parents when the barn burnt from a lightning strike. That was 20+ years ago and I think the pay out was 4 grand as it was an unused storage building then. Now it’s a major fight to get a nickel out of them for...

    Surviving Minnesota!

We had thunderstorms yesterday. It has been raining on and off for two days, but it is still dry. I planted rye yesterday and the sand is only damp for about an inch and a half down. The rain we get is heavy downpours were most the water runs off right a way. We need a slow soaker rain for...

    Surviving Minnesota!

I think that is a common problem. Too many small fish are thrown back and too many breeders are kept. The DNR has finally addressed that with Northern Pike. We have a 10 fish limit on them compared to the 3 fish limit we had for decades. However, there is a slot and the breeders between 22...

    Surviving Minnesota!

I am 99.97 percent they are a Southie creature, based on how mean and evil they are, that found out the north is a paradise and immigrated up here. Without proper documentation.

I am not sure I am going to get there in August. I am still trying to get April work done. I have my fingers crossed for a trip up, but who knows.

    Surviving Minnesota!

I don’t mind spreading it as long as I have rye about 6 inches high in November. My bees like the milk weed, and I might get some Biden dough for raising butterflies.

    Surviving Minnesota!

I have a ton of milkweed. I had to disc some under, as it is taking over my rye field.

    Surviving Minnesota!

I was thinking you were on the wrong side of the Mississippi, but then realized we are on the same side of the river. I think you’re on the wrong side of St Francis river. We never get a nice soaker rain, but we get more than enough downpours with hail and wind on this side of the St Francis.

    Surviving Minnesota!

Today is a humidity building day, so we have enough moisture around to make tomorrow a true sweltering day.

I only worry about the deer flies. They attack in broad daylight. I stay out of the swamps during mosquito season.
