Another thing to keep an eye out is making sure the silkies don't hit their heads on anything. Polish chickens also have the openings in their skulls. I had a polish rooster who was protecting the flock against the lawn mower (All hens safely inside the coop, Rooster was in the run). The rooster...
I have my two silkies mixed with my entire flock: polish, welsummer, cochin (bantam & full sized), easter egger, golden buff, and lavender orpington. I have a speckled sussex and an ameraucana that free range with this flock but are otherwise kept in a separate coop. They all get along great...
These are my two silkies. Growing up slowly but surely! They are about 11 weeks old. I'm guessing the lighter one is a Roo, but I have zero experience sexing these guys so who knows!! Hoping at least one of them ends up being a pullet.
Mine has the same coloration, I'm curious to know as well!!
When I bought mine it was sold as a blue silkie. Then the tan spots started showing on its head & back .
One of my silkie chicks had a bare vent area when I first brought it home. Two weeks later it doesn't look like anything is growing back. Will this be bare forever? I don't have a picture on me, but will get one later when I get home from work.
This is my new 1 wk old silkie (the grey one). It's supposed to be a blue silkie, but it has these brown marks on its head and back. Do you guys think it might be a splash? Or do you think the brown will disappear while it grows?
I'll be getting my first silkie next week! I was supposed to get one a few months ago, but it ended up being a polish. Which was totally fine, as I wante one anyway!
