Sounds like you're well on your way to a great setup. For the number of chicks you have, that should be fine for the first 2-3 weeks. Trust me, you'll know when there isn't enough room! Make sure your coop is ready before getting chicks.

Is the coop itself 6X8 and the run separate? Or are the measurements for both the coop and the run? A coop by itself that is 6x8 sounds great. You need 3-4sq feet per standard sized chicken for the coop, ideally (I'm way below that myself), and for the run, you should have about 10sq feet per...

6X8 is still pretty big! My current coop is 4x6, but it's too small for 17 chickens. It worked best for 10-12 chickens.

That would mean length. Word of advice: build the biggest coop you can manage/afford to build. Even if you only had 4 chickens, better to build it big than need to build another coop later.

Seventeen currently. I've brooded two batches of chickens and let a hen hatch twice. I had two different predator attacks and lost some birds over the summer and have dispatched one rooster so far. The number changes a lot! Hoping to get to 30-40 by this time next year.

How big is the storage container? I raised seven chicks in only about 8sq feet, or a 2'X4' sized container. I moved them outside at five weeks old into a tiny coop and run with 55 sq feet until they were 8 weeks old and I put them in with my big chickens.

No it doesn't, just as long as the chicks can't get their entire bodies into the food and water or spill a lot all at once, it doesn't matter. Full-sized chicken feeders/waters do tend to much larger and take up a lot of space in the brooder, if space is an issue. As great as that Mypetchicken...

Yes! Great way to reduce water and feed mess as well as poop in the water and feed.

Have you spoke with your neighbors? I can see how that is a serious concern. Do you have any limits on chickens? Live with an HOA?

I haven't tried that brand, but I've looked at that model and love that it is dual purpose. I say go for it!

Well that's good about the power! But seriously, look into the heating plate for chicks. It took a lot of the stress out of overheating/underheating the chicks. They poop on it sometimes but that's what chickens do so it didn't bother me.

Just reiterating some of what others said: Have Corrid on hand and puppy pee pads are great for the first 2-3 days before switching to another litter material. I wanted to add: consider using a mother hen radiate heating plate. I bought this one from Amazon when Covid hit so I bought what I...
