Howdy Lunalala. My suggestion for making chickens safe for children is to not get them use to being handled. My roosters that were hand raised and petted turned into the meanest critters attacking everyone. I go chase my roosters around waving my arms so they stay a friendly distance away and on...

    Arkansas folks speak up.........

I have two broodies sitting on a nest. I noticed a little fuzzy butt hopping around this a.m. and I'm hoping for more. One hen started sitting about a week before the other so I don't how they are going to settle who's is who's chicks. Maybe they will co-parent. I used to have a pair of game...

I wish one of my girls would go broody. I would slip some chicks under her. They do such a good job at raising chicks. I have 5 chicks in a brooder now. They are about 3 or 4 weeks old now. Hopefully they will be feathered out enough to put outside soon. I'm keeping them in an unheated garage...

I check all the pullets and definitely only one pullet is laying. I guess I was lucky to be get 6 eggs a week or at least I was before the big 2 inch snow of 2017, lol. Finally, four days later I have an egg.

    Arkansas folks speak up.........

Well I grabbed up one of my PR pullets yesterday that I thought was probably laying but she is only two fingers wide. I may only have one or two laying since I am only getting one egg per day. I need to check out all my girls instead of guessing. Since they are all about eight months old I...

    Arkansas folks speak up.........

Wow! With only four layers I'm getting an egg a day or at least until the snow hit that is. I haven't had any since. They wouldn't even come out their dark coop until yesterday.

    Arkansas folks speak up.........

Scorcher that's great news about your layers. My pullets too have begin laying. I get on egg per day most days. They are PR's and one is a blue cochin mix but I'm sure she hasn't started yet. An egg a day is better than no eggs, lol.

I live in Waldron and go to Ft. Smith frequently, in fact just yesterday when DH broke his phone. The thread hasn't really been very active since cool weather hit. I don't know why. I do check on it every day or two. Puddin Fluff we did go to Ozark a couple of weeks ago to see our sons bulldogs...

    Arkansas folks speak up.........

Well since my last post I got 3 more eggs and from the chicken coop no less! I have decide these 4 eggs have cost $49.50. Those 5 little pullets are going to have to get busy if they are going to bring that cost down but on the bright side DH says they are the best eggs he ever ate, lol.

    Arkansas folks speak up.........

Yeah, my Production Red's are seven months old and the little cochin mutt is about six months old. A couple of the PR's have bright red combs so I know it was most likely one of them. It's been two days and no more eggs though.
