LOL. On one side of the family, when we get together we talk politics, current events. On the other side we talk chickens and gardens. Guess which get together I look forward to most.
I did that with my grandmother. She was the best cook in the county- people paid her to make their Thanksgiving pies cakes and dressing. I watched, documented and attempted to make. Mine is pretty good, but not the same as hers. I think no one can imitate the magic of a great cook.
Lordy that looks good. Just finished eating the last of the Christmas banana bread- had it in the freezer for later in the year, but could not leave it alone. Now I need to make more.
I own Saladmaster- surgical steel cookware that I have had since 1976 and looks like new. Also cast iron skillet, griddle and baking pan with handles. I don't like aluminum either.
Oh Grammy60, prayers for a speedy healing. Work that hand, shoulder and elbow. When you get up in age, joints want to freeze on ya - ask me how i know. I will give you the advise my MD gave me- slow down, watch where you put your feet and stay off ladders. i would add- use a cane.
Gotta say, 2020 was a challenge, but with my friends I made it through. Sweet women who appeared when needed to help with whatever I needed, who called to check on me and to just shoot the breeze. I have had good health, thank God, enough money to do what was needed, the love of two little dogs...
I feel your pain. All of the deaths and horrors in our family seem to occur during the holidays. For years, I considered it just another day, especially after my husband died. Then, I figured, what the heck, I am special so, every couple of years, I do the thing, invite a few over for dinner...
I am gonna do the usual- there won't be hardly anyone here this year. For appetizers, gonna make Cranberry crack (mmm) and have chips and salsa. Gonna dry brine my turkey and make cornbread dressing, sweet potato casserole, green bean casserole, ambrosia, gravy and yeast rolls. For dessert...
I know - right? I think I have gained 5 pounds because of all the beautiful bread pics and recipes. Now, I have to go start my loaf bread- will have sandwiches tonight, maybe apple muffins for breakfast.
No. they are like Italian fig cookies. They are a dough rolled out, filling put in and the dough rolled over to make about a 1 inch tall roll. they are cut about 3 inches long and then one side sliced a few times and the cookie bent. Baked and frosted. Next time I make some, I will take pics...
NO-no, No. Can't check out the dried fruits. Did not make my Grandma's Cuccidatti recipe with dried dates and figs for the holidays this year. They really would go well with hot coffee or hot tea. Well, maybe I can just look.
