Two days ago I saw somethin in the woods on my property. Upon investigation turned out to be a strange chicken. We live on 130 acres and even my closest neighbors dont have chickens. From the owlish face im guessing its an "easter egger" looks like a hen around 8 months old? Any ideas how far these can travel? Another idea was it was dropped by a hawk. Havent found an owner yet. The poor thing is scared to death!! We got it in the coop the first day and locked it in. Then it spent the night with my flock and was let out with them the next morn. It stays away from them and wont come close even when I throw out scratch. However it did go back in the coop last night. It is always the last chicken out in the morn staying inside for about an hour before coming out. Same this morning. She does not try to hang out with any other chickens and wont let me any where near her. Do you think she will settle down soon? With she integrate into my flock? She shows no signs of molt so guessing under a year old.
Here are some pics. Not the best cus i had my camera on super zoom and hard to hold the camera real still.

She's very pretty! I think she will integrate given time. The fact that the others don't pick on her is encouraging. I think the same goes for her acceptance of you - give her time, maybe she has had some traumatic experience with people who knows? Keep us posted on her progress, Sue

I cant imagine what she must have gone through to get here. She is getting better I think. First day she was running into trees in terror when a leaf fell. I was afraid she would break her neck. She still hasnt figured out where the break in the fence is for her to get back into the yard where the coop is. My hubby and I have been "herding" her to the right place. After she sees it she goes right in. And tonight she went right to the coop and went in. I even got within 5 feet of her without her freaking out. I am hopeful! She is very pretty. Well....I think its a she lol. I dont know a lot about the breed i THINK she is.

Still no original owner found..

I'm pretty sure she is an easter egger. Just give her a few days and she will most likely warm up to the other chickens and you. She is probably traumatized and upset. She is very pretty! Hope she settles in!

I hope so too!!!! When the sun hits her tan feathers they are so pretty!!! They really shine.

Aww I'm so glad she found you!! Sounds like she is settling in a bit.
Im surprised she made it a night alone. With the coyotes that run through. The dogs have the full run of the front and back yards at night to keep the critters out but she was on the other side of the fence. I am also glad that even though my Hubby couldnt give a hoot about my chickens and other critters he was right there when i called him and asked him to maneuver through the woods to herd a chicken into the yard and then into the coop!!
