Just showing out the quail eggs putting out! Most around 14.5g but recently one has been putting out a daily dose of double Yolkers. I’ve put a few in the incubator considering that one seemingly had two yolks but was a 23.1g single yolk egg. I’m hoping more will be the same.
Has anyone hatched...
So our chickens have only been laying eggs since May 23rd and only 4 of our hens are laying so far but today we got a double egg?
I went to crack and cook a very large egg that my wife was sure was our first double yolk. I was very surprised to find another whole egg shell in the egg!
Is this...
Hello everyone. I had a quick question regarding double yolk eggs. Every time I get an egg from one of my hens they come out with two yolks. Is this okay for her or is it going to hurt her? I was just wondering if there was something I was doing or feeding them that causes this? I do feed my...
Dorothy, an 11 month old white and black chicken that lays light azure blue eggs (both pictured), has laid plenty of double yolkers... But at least two have had a noticeable delineation in the shell where it's like her body added on a caboose to the egg to make even more room than usual! (See...
Hi everyone, new member, long time reader. We have 2 Roos (Elvis & Hei Hei) & 9 Hens Avril, Chicken little, Loretta, Mama B; the rest are still earning their names. This is our 1st year with chickens. Our Hen Mama B went broody (hence her name) & is in the process of hatching a 16 egg clutch...
Hi! I have a young Australorp hen who just started laying about 3 weeks ago. I know things take a while to regulate themselves when hens first start laying. I’m still concerned though because every day for the last week and a half she has either laid a hard shell double yolk egg or two soft...
Hello!
I am hoping to get some advice on a surprise I found in my incubator today. I have a small batch of eggs from my mixed flock in my bator (five of them), as a first run at seeing how lucky our recently of age silver polish rooster has been with the girls.
Today, while candling them, we...
OMG!!!!
I got my first egg on Tuesday, a second (quite tiny) on Wednesday, and a third on Friday.
NOW, THIS IS THE AMAZING PART!!!
I cracked all three open to scramble up my homegrown eggs, and I was shocked! The very first egg I got and the very first egg to be cracked was a DOUBLE YOLK...
Hi lovely people!
For the last two months I've been stalking this website trying to gather information to start a research project. And this past Monday, it was finally time for me to start! I figured I would post a thread in this forum so those interested can follow along, as well as a quick...
Hi lovely people!
I’m doing a research project on double yolk eggs and their hatchability and I’d love to hear about some experiences people here have had hatching twins!
I’m aware of the issue of the cramped space so I’ve been coming up with a solution to that problem.
Also, the only...
Wanted to share this. When collecting eggs today, my mother and I found a teeny tiny little egg. A 'fart' egg. However, upon cracking it open, we were surprised to find that not only did it have a yolk, but it was a double yolk to boot! I just had to take a picture.

So my Isa Browns have had enough time to start laying regularly and my RIR rooster is mating them. (yolks have bullseye) I am planning on setting some with my next batch of eggs but my girls lay double yolks quite often. I don't think a day goes by where I don't get at least 1. So my question is...
I have an Orpington who has just begun laying (probably started a month to 6 weeks ago), and she has been laying very strange eggs from the start. Some speckled, then they switched to regular brown so I thought that was fine and she adjusted. Her eggs are small but o figured they would...
I'm pretty sure either one or more of my ISA brown pullets that just started laying in February is laying double yolks at a crazy pace. I've had 4 double yolkers in the last 2 weeks. They are huge! I feel bad for the chicken pushing those out, but it made me wonder - how common are double...
