HELP! My chickens are slowing/stopping egg production at less than A YEAR old!!
Please help! My chickens egg production was really great (I have four hens and we were getting 4 eggs a day) until a couple of weeks ago when we started getting 0-2 eggs a day. I thought it might be a calcium...
We are planning to have 10 chickens plus 1 rooster. Winter hardy and heavy egg layers. So far we are considering 2-3 each of these:
- barred rock
- australorp
- Orpington (color?)
- Wyandotte (color?)
- Rhode Island Red
Which rooster out of these breed would be a good choice?
Any input/comment...
Hello! Our 8 chickens will be a year old end of July. Been outside in coop full time since last fall and started laying in December. For a few months were averaging 4-5 eggs a day (even through winter)...now only 1-2. Here is what I can tell you:
they’re free range most of the day
no evidence...
We have 5 one year old hens: 2 Americana, 1 lavender Orpington, 1 leg horn and 1 barnevelder.
Since early February I haven’t gotten a single from the Americanas. We chalked it up to cold weather and not much sunlight. Even though the other girls were laying in full force and we keep a heat...
I started my flock of 8 on fermented feed exclusively 2 weeks ago. The week prior to switching I got 32 eggs. The first week on fermented I got 24 eggs. The second week I only got 4 eggs. I've fed fermented feed exclusively before without problems to a flock which included 3 members of this...
Quick question... With the days getting shorter I'm considering adding supplemental light to my coop to help with egg laying and am wondering if it's ok to add it to the end of the day rather than the beginning. I have a heavy duty exterior timer that goes on at dusk and can stay on 2, 4, 6 or 8...
Hi All.
Our wee flock of six sliver Appleyards (one drake and five ducks) has dropped egg production from a consistent 4 eggs/day earlier this spring (sometimes 5) to 1 or 2 eggs/day (it's mid-July now).
The ducks are two years old, and we live on the coast of Maine. They free range for an...
Hi! Lately our egg production has been going down- a lot.
We used to normally get 10-15 eggs a day, but now we are getting 5-8 a day. We have only lost one chicken recently....
I’m guessing it may be because of the heat? (We live down south) Several of our chickens are cold weather breeds, so...
Ok, this is going to be a long one but please stay with me because I really need some answers.....we have about 30 hens and 5 roosters on our farm. They are kind of free range because they stay in the open sided feed barn and have free run over our livestock pens. We have all breeds of chickens...
Houston had a real humdinger last night. Booms, light shows and all that. The flock that was laying 15 eggs from 17 hens spit out 9 today. I was curious when this would happen and here it is. I even searched the flight cage for another nest. Nope, just the 9.
What causes your egg...
I have got some egg questions. I have 9 ducks (2 drakes, 7 hens), White Layers and Golden 300's who are prolific layers. They turned 1 last August (2017). They started laying in January 2017, (back when we had 8 hens) and once they all started laying, I was consistently getting 8 eggs a day...
I posted a thread in a local small farm group on Facebook back in November, when it was still relatively comfortable in my area. At that time I had no idea what this winter would become. Here was my post from November 3, 2017 from that local Facebook group:
"Has anyone heard that chickens...
