Are Naked Necks (Turkens) from Hoover Hatchery pure? Or do they mix them with other breeds and, given that the naked neck genes are dominant, just call the Naked Necks?
This is John and Yolko. I learned of naked necks and had to have some, so my own sweet partner made a three hour round trip drive to surprise me with these two from a local breeder. We bought them straight run, but John showed himself early. They were hatched march 10 so they are only 8 weeks...

3 weeks old today, I got this chick locally with another yellow but now white chick, I asked if they were crossed with anything and the breeder said “no they are 100% Transylvania turkens”… but my little black chick has ended up barred and he also had 50 barred rocks for sale so I’m thinking mom...
Hi all, I know 4 weeks old is pretty young to be sexing but I have one chick who has grown a ridiculously large comb. This particular chick came from a huge egg, was a huge chick from the get-go, and has grown much faster than the others. One other chick I suspected of being a rooster because it...
A few weeks ago, the kind woman I bought my incubator from offered me 12 free eggs to start my hatching journey. Peering into the basket, I saw many shades of green and dark brown eggs. One by one I sorted through which eggs I wanted until my hand paused on the largest green egg that I have ever...
Looking for full sized NN Turken eggs to ship to Maryland. A diversity of plumage color is great but black or blue would get me off to a good start. If you're interested in a swap I have lots of heritage/rare chickens, ducks, turkey's, and geese. Thanks!
Hi! I’m pretty sure this is a roo because of the comb size and colors compared to my other girls but I wanted to ask for a second opinion. Any thoughts? This is my first batch of turkens. Also long shot but any ideas with the silkie? *the cage is temporary, currently deep cleaning the brooder*
I have a Cock that came from a Naked Neck Mom & a Silkie Dad. He was born with neck feathers instead of without. If I bred him to a Silkie Hen, would any of the chicks from that be born without neck feathers or would all of those chicks have neck feathers like him? Pic is of him:
Will be 12 weeks on 9/22 (estimated)
We purchased 4. 2 are pullets. One is a very obvious Roo. This one though…definitely resembles the pullets more, but the Roo is relentlessly mean to this one.
I just hatched 7 Silkie chicks that were listed as assorted colors. All of them are black or white except two. One is either a splash or a paint (not sure how to tell) and the other I have no idea. Does anyone know what color they'll be I'm? I'm pretty new to silkies so any additional...
Just an update on chicks I hatched April 7th, 2021. Coming along quite nice the white one is a polkie. The naked neck and the hen golden buff laceXnn mix(1from each nn). It was pretty cool to have 2 of the same mix look so different. I had to rehome the nn because he was harassing my silkie hen...
Has anyone tried (or thought about) adding some Turkeys/Naked Neck gene into their sustainable meat program? From what I’ve read, the NN gene carries so many benefits - easier plucking, more meat production (especially in the breast), more resistant to diseases, great mothers, good taste...
I'm getting these little dinosaurs on Monday and they need names!
They are straight run.
I'm also getting this cockerel! I'm thinking Willy Wonka or Little Foot(Land before Time reference) for him!
Hello everyone I will be raising dual purpose chickens for the next few months to have a small supply of eggs and meat and to sell locally
I will be posting pictures of progress
feel welcome to join this journey here are my naked neck and orpington mix chick's hatching
As I’ve been researching which DP to get for meat birds, I keep coming across people saying to make sure to buy from a breeder. It sounds like some hatcheries are good, but breeders (breeding for meat quality) should be better.
I’ve searched on other websites and here on BYC, on Facebook and...
Can anyone tell me what these are? I have been worried its lymphoid leukosis but I’m not sure it would present this early. I’m new to showgirls but everything I’ve read said they are fairly hardy birds, some sites even say disease resistant (but being a microbiologist not sure I buy into that)...
Hi y'all!
The name is Katie. I have been raising chickens for two years now and have loved EVERY second of it. What started as an original flock of 5 laying hens I found on Craigslist turned to a flock of 17 in less than my first week. :D It's safe to say I fell in love with them. My husband and...
