What do you think she is?

I bought Ariel fully grown from a farm. The owner buys heritage breeds and doesn’t really ID her birds. I thought she might be Orpington but kinda looks like a New Hampshire Red. One of these eggs is hers and the other belongs to my Plymouth barred rock.

    What breed is this?

Does anyone know what breed this is? I got 2 of these about 3 months ago, they were 5 months old when I got them. They still haven't started laying yet but the one in the first picture has started squatting so I think she is close to laying. The person I got these from said that they are Green...

    How old is this chicken?

Hi, I got her about a week ago. The seller told me she was about 5 months old. My old chickens started laying eggs when they their waddles were even smaller than this chicken. As far as I know, she has not layed an egg before after we got her. But I'm scared that it might be an old chicken that...

    Laying potential of hybrids?

I have hens/pullets of several breeds (Hamps, Wyandotte, a rock, an Ameraucana, and sex links). Our rooster is a silkie. If they were to produce offspring, what is the likelihood that the hens genetic aptitude for laying will offset the lower production of the silkie? Is it something that you...

Butchering 17 week old Buff Orps and New Hampshire Reds?

Hey all, This is my first go round with raising chickens. These chicks hatched 17 weeks ago and I got 6 each, straight run Buff Orps, New Hampshire reds, and Silver-laced Wyandottes. I ended up with 4 BO & NHR roos, and 3 SLW roos. I let them free range but there are just too many and they are...

    Louisianagal and her chicks

I have always wanted some backyard chickens, so last January my husband began building a coop and a run. By April it was finished so I went to the local feed store after researching which chickens I wanted. I came home on April 22 with a large barred rock, a tiny fluffy buff Orpington, a brown...
