Rye sprouts for feed. It is surprisingly easy to maintain.

I have rye, oat and sunflower seed sprouts and my chicken love it! I give it to them before bed. I see there is lots of discussion about it- I find it easy to maintain and it’s better for the summer than just grains.

    Oats

We have been feeding out chickens crushed oats for a treat. Is that fine? Are they healthy? I have heard opinions that giving them oats can be really good and others said that it can be really bad. :hmm Do you have an opinion on this?

    Starting Oats.jpg

I've been experimenting with the oats since I've got 50 lbs to use and the main huge difference is that very few seem to want to germinate if they're left open to dry out in the open air, but they almost all sprout when kept under a damp paper towel while gettimg established. Maybe too dry here?

These are my first two pans. Really need to build something to keep them for me. I'm hoping to find something else to grow by the time I finish this 50lb bag of oats. For now the quacks are loving my efforts!

Best crop for chickens, turkeys and ducks.

I have been looking to plant some crops in a separate run so I can take them off of the run when I need to replant the crops. I need to know which crop is best for a mixed flock. I am currently thinking about oats or alfalfa but would like to hear your opinions, thanks.

    Mealworm bedding

Hi all, So after watching lots of videos on YouTube, I learned that wheat bran might be the best bedding for mealworms. And I literally drove to some of the nearest feed stores and it turned out that none of them had wheat bran. So I’m thinking if it’s okay to use whole oats. I tried to find...

Oats, Peas and Barely as feed
