Rooster’s feet/spurs bleeding, don’t know what to do!

My one and a half year old rooster has a bleeding foot, and I’m unsure about whether it’s coming from the spur or a wound on the leg itself. He lives in a spacious coop with 5 hens, and acts/looks completely normal and healthy. However, his feet do bleed pretty often (around once every 2 months...

Hen Spur - does it need a trim?

Hey all, My hen has one random spur and it’s getting long. Should i be concerned? I can trim it if need be - I don’t want her to harm herself and end up with bumble foot. Any advice appreciated. Thx.

Rooster's spur is hanging on by a thread

One of my roosters has been cocky lately & looks like he got in a good scuffle. His spur is hanging on by a thread! He walks fine (unless he bumps it) but I'm worried it's hurting him. 😔 Is there a wound spray that might numb it? Will it just fall off? He isn't one that will just let me catch...

    Curled spur

I was cleaning feet to check for and possibly treat scaly mites and was surprised to find that my hen has a curled spur on one leg. She’s got some silky so there’s the extra toe too and everything lines up a little wonky. I’m wondering what the best way would be to get rid of the spur so it...

Bone spur on wing? Can't find any info on what this is

Hi there, One of my chickens has a weird growth on her wing. She's had it for about a year now and it keeps getting bigger. At first it just looked like a fat lump covered in skin under the feathers, but now it has like bone growing out of it. She doesn't seem at all bothered by it, she was...

    Large spur on baby chick

Is this an abnormal spur? Should it be this big at 4 weeks? I think it is a hen, but I am new to chickens.

    Removing spurs.

What is the best way to remove spurs from a cockerel? Our roughly 8 month old cockerel is starting to grow his spurs. We only have 4 pullets (all laying) so he’s pretty rough with all of them. His spurs aren’t very long but they’re pretty wide or ‘thick’, so I’m sure they’ll grow to be pretty...

Rooster ripped off one of his spurs

Our flock free ranges....my husband was outside and discovered our rooster Fred was bleeding heavily from his left foot. Once I was able to catch him we discovered his spur was hanging on by a thread. We snipped it the rest of the way off, got him cleaned and bandaged, and gave a dose of...

    How To Clean Rooster Spurs?

Hello, I'm working on a project with my rooster's spurs. I'm making earrings, but before I do anything I'm unsure on what to use to clean them. Yes, the inside is hollow, with dry blood from when they were removed. Which, is why I need them cleaned- regardless they need cleaned. I'm curious on...

Spur Removal Question (For Future Events)

(If you don't feel like reading the whole thing, but want to help, just answer the bolded questions! Thanks!) One of my polish chicks is most likely a cockerel, and so I've started researching things about roosters and keeping one. A book one of my friends got me for my birthday had a chapter...

rooster cracked his spur off and is limping!

How concerned should I be? He cracked a spur off a year or two ago and it didn't trouble him at all. Now he's bloody and limping. :( I soaked it in some non iodized sea salt and put some anti baterial cream on the little stump that's left of his spur.

Rooster or Not a Rooster, that is the question???

Hi everyone, I have one chicken that has not played yet, they are all about 23 weeks old, and 5 of the 6 have started laying, and have been laying for about a month. I believe this breed is a Sicilian Buttercup. Is it a rooster or not? (Take note of possible spurs on back of legs).
