So my brother recently got 4 mallards that have been given to me to care for. They’ve been doing quite a lot of “flying” around and he’s worried that they’ll fly away in a few weeks if we don’t clip their wings. So I just have a couple of questions about clipping.
1. Is it ethical?
I feel bad...
Hello, I have 1 Muscovy that's 14 weeks old and 2 that are 12 weeks old. My female Muscovy that's 12 weeks old is trying to fly and can lift up a little and kind of glide about 12cm far and my one that's 14 weeks (male) flutters his wings a lot but not lifted up off floor.
what age should I...
I watched a video by Brimwood Farms and he recommends clipping there wings before they can fly so they get used to being more grounded. My question is how soon can you clip a Guinea Fowl's flight feathers and how much do you clip? Thx,
Would someone please help me? We have eight Guinea fowl along with our flock of 200+ chickens. We had to fence in 3 acres as the “guardian” dogs we bought as pups had Parvo and were away from our flock during those crucial times as puppies. They are NOT able to be with the flock like our Great...
Hi everyone! @Miss Lydia @Isaac 0 @Magnolia Ducks @casportpony
CCP is 10 weeks old as of today. He's been doing really well and has gotten really big!
However, we can't move him outside yet, because we're still integrating him in with our flock of chickens. We want him to get big enough so...
Hello! I have some questions regarding wing clipping. I had my first jail break today. One of my California White Leghorns ended up in a neighbors yard. They are about 12 weeks old and I also have Lavender Orpingtons and Golden Laced Wyandottes, but the whites are the problem children. Lol. I am...
My 6.5 month old pullets (2 Easter Eggers & 2 who may be Barred Rocks or Dominique’s) have started flapping over their 5 foot fence. I am ready to clip their wings but I’m unsure whether to clip one wing or both of them. I’ve read opinions both ways. What are your thoughts? Thank you.
Hi BYC friends!
I’ve watched a few videos on clipping my ducks’ wings but I wanted to check in for any tips and tricks from my friends here first.
I only plan to clip the Mallard wings because it is my understanding that my fawn and white runners aren’t able to fly.
Any advice would be much...
My little brother has 7 chicks, 3 of which are Silver Sebrights and after browsing the internet and reading this site i have learned that they fly well would he be docked points if his show bird went into show with a clipped wing?
I want to clip the flight feathers on my 2 month old babies, but not sure how ( I've heard of a couple different ways). I want to do what's easiest for the birds. Are they even old enough to worry about clipping?
