There was a time before the fire nation attacked. A time before avatar Aang was even alive. It was a time when bending the elements was first discovered. There were more branches of bending, and most people could only bend one. However, this was a time went the nation's relationships were fragile, and many of the people did not get along.
This is the time before the Avatars.​

This is way back before construction, however I will allow complex houses because they could just... Bund them into existence. However, no giant castles.

Elements

Air- These people are light skinned and have short light brown hair. Another sure sign of one is blue arrow tattoos. They are usually found wearing tan, yellow, orange and brown colors. Their weapons of choice are Bows, staffs/gliders, and/or bending. Their powers allow them to bend air.

Snow- These people are dark skinned and have long wavy black hair that they never have up. They are usually found wearing Light-blue, almost white-blue, and white colors. Their weapons of choice is a war axe, shield, and/or bending. Their powers allow them to bend snow and make water into snow.

Water- These are light brown skinned people with wavy hair imbetween light brown and dark brown, worn in clipped hoops, down with braids, or in lose low ponytails. They are usually found wearing light-blue, light-brown, and dark-blue colors. Their weapons of choice are clubs, boomerangs, and bending. Their powers allow them to bend water.

Plant- These are light brown skinned people with strait dirty blond hair, usually worn short or in a braid. They are usually found wearing tan, light-grey-brown, brown, and light-green colors. Their weapons of choice are scythes and bending. Their powers allow them to control the growth of plants.

Earth- These are light skinned people with long wavy or strait black hair, usually worn down. They are usually found wearing olive-green, dark-green, tan and light-brown colors. Their weapon of choice is their bending. Their powers allow them to control stone.

Lava- These are tan skinned people with wavy short black unkept hair. They are found wearing Light red-orange, gold, and different shades of grey. Their weapon of choice is a warhammer and bending. Their powers allow them to bend lava and melt rock.

Fire- These are tan or light skinned people with long strait black hair, usually kept up in a range of ways, (bun, braid, ponytail, ect.) They are found wearing Crisimmon, red-black, gold, and shades of red-grey. Their weapon of choice is the sword and bending. Their powers allow them to bend fire.

Ice- These are tan skimmed people with long, wavy white hair, usually worn in a ponytail or braid. They are found wearing light grays and white. Their weapon of choice is throwing knives and bending. Their powers allow them to bend ice and freeze water.

Blood- These benders come in any form, and are only shown as blood benders if they are using their powers, or wearing the traditional all-red clothing. Their weapon of choice is bending. Their powers allow them to control anything with blood.

Metal: These are light skinned people with strait black hair, usually kept down. They are found wearing all shades of grey. Their weapons of choice are steel war axes, steel claymores, steel maces, steel war hammers and bending. Their powers allow them to bend any metal.

Lightning: These are light skinned people with blond, almost white hair. Their hair can be wavy or strait and is worn in any way. They are found wearing almost-black-blue, black, yellow and white colors. Their weapons of choice are throwing knives and bending. Their powers allow them to bend lightning.
