I ordered 1/4" - 19 guage hardware cloth thru my lumber yard for my duck pen, the guy could not
get it in 19 guage so instead of calling me and asking me anything..( I would have ordered 1/2" 19 guage)
he assumed I wanted the 1/4' , so he ordered the 23 guage.. and I ordered it in 48 " on a roll which is
"Special" order... He wasnt even going to tell me , I just happen to ask.. arrrgghhhh. I have to keep out
Everything-- skunks, racoons, possums, !!!! snakes, I have NO experience yet with this But from what
IVe read, I am thinking it will NOT work.... Plzzz give advise... THank YOu....... Kris

23 gauge does sound flimsy. I use 19 gauge on our duck pen and it's kept out everything so far. Can you return the stuff you ordered, seeing as you didn't want it in the first place? I would try returning it and then ordering 19 gauge.

You can't just let that happen if you didnt want it. Go back and tell them thats not what you ordered and you want it replaced with the right thing.

but the 1/2" -- 19 guage would be okay right?? I cant believe he didnt
ask .. and it was special order cuz of the width I guess , and he says it cant be returned
but it was not my fault soooo ??!!! and I have not picked it up or paid for it yet .... ugghh
I am such a wimp,, I hate when stuff like this happens. k, then I WIll not except it... lol

Yeah stand your ground... Say that's not what I ordered so I'm not taking it... And the 1/2" should be fine, I would prefer that over the 1/4"

true,
I would go with 1x1 or 2x4 welded wire anyway, I hate hardware cloth

NO WIRE IS CRITTER PROFF either, if you have probelms, you are going to have to do like I do, run 2 strands of electic fence around the bottom of the pens, one at about 6 inchs and 1 at 12 inches
They have insulators that stick out 6 inches from you pens, so theres no risk of the birds touching it, but if you have dedicated perdators, they WILL get in without it

This is what i am about to order:

http://www.wirefenceonline.com/welded/vc

I am waiting for them to give me a full quote (for shipping)

They have a ton of lengths, including the 48" which is what i am getting.

I'm going to go with the 19 gauge 1/2" x 1/2" black pvc coated welded wire.

The cost is about $311 without shipping.

If i went with the home depot stuff in 2 foot rolls, it would cost about $400, for the same length, i think.

I just got 1/4 X 1/4 (19 ga.) hardware cloth (3' tall) that we ran around the bottom 3' of the dog kennel that the ducks & chickens live in. My first calls were murdered (yes, ugh) by raccoons that grabbed them through the dog kennel fence at night. We ty-wrapped the screen onto the kennel and it's pretty firm and strong.

There is absolutely nothing that is going to grab or slip through the hardware cloth/kennel now. Perhaps a mink/weasel could climb up past the hardware cloth but I don't think any of those live around me. Mostly coons and possums.

The 1/2 inch would probably be good also. After the coon incident, I'm paranoid, so the smaller and stronger, the better. I've been making the ducks go to bed at night and I shut them in so we all sleep easier.

Hottentot,,, I looked all over for black that I thought would work and didnt see this.
Ive already ordered the other
