1 day old chick abscess?

My 1 day old baby chick seems to have some sort of abscess on it’s neck. Does anyone else know what it is? She/he’s a Bantam but we’re not quite sure what kind as she’s kind of a mix.

Do you think that might be the crop, which is in the upper right chest, but can seem on the shoulder?

I think it went down today. I can’t see it anymore. I know they’ve been eating a lot of the bedding so I put down a towel in the brooder last night. I’m hopeful. It looks a ton better.

If it went down, then very likely it was her crop.

I would provide chick grit if they are eating bedding (most chicks do that!)


A towel is fine. Puppy pads in brooder can work better if you can get those (easy cleanup and you can throw those away!)
