Hello I have a baby chick who has curled toes pretty bad and his toes curl almost on there side completely and being that I just noticed it this morning. I didn't see anything with his toes when I got him but now all of a sudden his toes are curled. And being older I don't know how to correct the toes as I know it gets harder to correct as they get older. They do not have a roost or anything so I have know idea how it just started or happened all of a sudden. Thanks in advance

It should be okay! As long as he can do chicken things, like scratching, roosting, ect., I wouldn't worry too much. [IMG] I've got a Hamburg hen with curled toes like that, and she's completely normal! I'll post pictures tomorrow so can see just how bent they are.

I just took some pics hold on I will post them I just had a hen though like that but when she jumped she looked like she put a lot of her weight on her outside toes and almost like she bent her toes out even farther than they were curled so if I can I would love to treat them

O and I have one chick that is so much smaller than the other I didn't want to start a tiger thread though so if anyone knows why that could be that would be helpful also

They dont look severe enough to interfere with her walking, is it? You can try a vitamin supplement with riboflavin and see if it helps. Sometimes a riboflavin defiency can cause this. Unless her walking is inhibited I wouldn't be too concerned. I have a silkie with some crazy toes but it doesn't interfere with her walking so I'm not too worried.

Ok well if a few people are telling me just not to interfere with her toes then I am just going to let it be she walks fine I a, just afraid they could get worse as she gets older. Does anyone know anything about the chick that is so much smaller than the others I got he chicks at tractor supply so it's not a real surprise. O and I forgot I have another chick that is a silkie and it has that 5th toe and the one is like turned a bit hat the toe nail is pointing up torwards his body and I have heard of a problem like this before but with a spur the rooster jumped off the roost and his spur jabbed in his stomach and they had to put him down and I don't want to open the coop door in the morning to find a injured chicken with a spur or a toenail jabbed in his stomach so is there any way though I can just fix that one toe? Thanks the other toes on him are fine

I don't think sunlight can cause curled toes but I am sure u can treat it depends on how old they r as u said they r 5 1/2wk old and it gets harder to treat as they get older so the best time to catch it is when they are young as possible I only ever treated this when they were just hatched and I noticed they were really having trouble walking so I get them out of e incubator and see what the problem is. Good luck

This doesn't seem to bother her in the least. [IMG]

Try giving your small chick lots of protein-rich food (such as scrambled eggs, yogurt, cottage cheese) to jump-start her growth. I had a Fayoumi chick who didn't grow at all for 3 weeks but pulled through with some dropper feedings and prayers. She is now almost has big as Iris, her Fayoumi sister. [IMG]
