This auction is for 10+ fertile hatching eggs from our two flocks of Blue Jersey Giants. Our chickens are all well taken care of, having spacious separate pens and being allowed to free range alternately during the week. We do not use artificial lights nor straight laying crumble, so our hens are happy and unstressed. None of the breeds are allowed to mix so you are guaranteed to receive eggs from the breed listed in this auction. One flock is made up of all blue Jersey Giants and will throw blue, black and splash. The second flock consists of splash hens mixed with a black Jersey Giant rooster which will result in all blue chicks. Our flocks are NPIP Certified.

Jersey Giants are generally considered a dual purpose bird, though they are probably known more as a meat bird, with the average weight of roosters being 13 pounds and the hens 11 pounds. They are in fact the largest purebred chicken, however due to their slow growth rate, they are not raised as broilers in the meat industry. They actually lay well for a large breed chicken, laying an average of 180 large brown eggs annually and are persistent layers even in cold weather. The Jersey Giant originated in New Jersey in the United States in the late 19th century. The Black Jersey Giants were accepted by the American Poultry Association (APA) in 1922. White Jersey Giants came later in 1947 and now the APA has accepted the new color variation of Blue Jersey Giants, having done so in 2002. This variation has also resulted in the color Splash. Their shanks and toes are black except for yellow skin showing on the bottoms of the feet. They are a very friendly chicken and make good pets as the roosters rarely exhibit aggressive behavior.
