10 week old bantam silkie dead this morning...no apparent cause...

This morning when I let my chickens out, one of my 10 week old bantam chicks was dead...He was alive and fine last night. Everyone else is fine. They are out in a pen during the day and are closed in a fair sized house at night...not overcrowded, plenty food and water both in and out. The only thing I could figure is maybe he suffocated, cuz they all pile up together, God knows why as hot as it has been...and he/she was one of the biggest ones. Any comments, ideas on cause would be appreciated! Thanks!

Sometimes, they die. Maybe he wasn't retaining nutrition like he should have been. Maybe he had an internal genetic issue. Maybe he did suffocate - like you said. It's hard to tell. Especially if there are no outward signs of illness or trauma.
