I have 5 10 week old barred rocks and this morning I put the hopefully girls in the big chicken pen and the boys in a separate pen with some other young cockerels. Everyone is a bit shaken up but otherwise, things are going well.
I just want to confirm.... the boys have bigger redder combs, light colored big feet and are generally bigger, right?I also have a mixed breed that is the baby of my favorite hen. I was hoping it was a hen but it is the biggest, most dominating chick with the biggest comb. Since I was so hopeful I put her (him) in with the big hens and the big rooster. He challenged the rooster where he was quickly encouraged to go sit in a corner.....
He is likely a boy right?

Could be. BRs can be sexed at hatch, so next time, post them and we'll tell you what you have way earlier than ten weeks!

Just to throw a wrench into the works I had a rock (hatchery bird) who had an enormous comb and turned out to be a hen BUT her comb wasn't red until she started laying so if you've got some that are getting pretty dark they're probably boys.
