Preserved duck eggs are a traditional Chinese delicacy, and although known as "1000-year-old eggs" they are rarely more than 100 days old. According to radio-show host Chef Meng, it's a common dish, sometimes known as pidan, that is made by coating duck or chicken eggs in a clay-like plaster of red earth, garden lime, salt, wood ash, and tea.

THESE ARE [IMG] They smell like ammonia. NASTY!!

yeah a friend of mine from the philipinnes eats them too.

He also eat another form of duck egg, with an almost fully formed embryo in it, they pull off the top of the shell add salt, and then suck it out [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

I think cultures call stuff that they want to get rid of a "delicacy" to try to get people to eat it!

"Hey, we've got too many snails... let's call it a delicacy / escargot and people will eat them!"

"Hey, we have too many eggs that won't hatch... let's call it a delicacy / balut !"

To all of it I say [IMG]

Quote:[IMG] Escargot is a certain type of snail and it is cooked (key word here) in butter and garlic. It is really delicious. Now calamari on the other hand, tastes like deep fried rubber bands.

Come on guys, I have one that I didn't peel. I thought for sure one of you would want me to overnight it, so you could taste it. YUMMY! HAHAHAHA I couldn't even taste it, it smelled so bad.

You might as well stick your nose in a bottle of ammonia with a tad of egg smell added.

Even though they stink, I am a rock lover and those look like pretty onyx or obsidian compounds.
