Crowing
I bought 10 - 3 week old pullets, on Aug. 20th. That would mean they were hatched around the first of Aug., and make them about 16 weeks old now.
Just a short time ago, I was out in the coop, and found a small egg, a bit bigger than 1/2 the size of the eggs the big hens are laying. This egg was on the poop board where the littles seem to hang out when the big girls leave in the morning. It was covered with sand, and poop, and when I went to clean it off, it crushed VERY easily in my hand ..... VERY thin shell. It was a fully developed egg, except the yolk seemed a much lighter yellow than the rich orangey color of the eggs I collect everyday. Unless one of the big girls has something wrong with her, this did not come from one of them.
Could one of the 16 week olds have started to lay already ? This time of year in Missouri ?
I can only suspect they were older than 3 weeks when I got them.
What say you ?
This is a pic of them on Sept. 1st, making them supposedly around 4 weeks old. Do they look like month olds to you ?
