One of my black hens is sitting on eggs in the fav nest. No idea what the others will say about her hogging it!
I'm not sure if it's my mix Jap or a young pure Jap just yet. After work I will check.
Found her on the next while locking them up last night, they are never in nests so late. Definitively not a Jap, Japs high tail it to the rafters as soon as the sun starts to go down.
I gave her 3 more eggs from the fridge, hope they are still good, who knows. I did notice a pause in egg production the day before last night, maybe I should be more aware of that. Might mean someone is going broody, it did this time!
    Wish her luck!

Broody is one of the Jap mix sisters.

Still on the nest, other sister has stopped laying. Will post when we have chicks.

Lucky! My hens always go broody in the most random times! The last one was in November! She dissapeared for 3 weeks and came back supporting a lovely brood of 8. What did she think I was supposed to do with 8 chicks in the middle of winter [IMG]

    Broodies are crazy!!
My Jap/D'uccle lady is nuts in her mad dash for food!
I know the sound so well now. She starts her constant jibber jabber, running outside for scratch, running to drink tons of water, running over for crumbles[scarfing it down in huge gulps], running down back to scratch and repeating the cycle 3x. She scares all others off, they keep their distance from 'crazy momma' and even Mr. Roo is bewildered and scared to get in her way!
It was quite a treat to see her go! [IMG]

6 eggs are dark and growing! Someone added 3 more eggs while she's been sitting, I moved them to the nest over since they were clear.
She's been on them since 02/21, how many more days? I can't wait!
Oh, it's been 11 days, due Monday March 14th!
