2.5 Month Old Amerecauna

Most hatchery sourced 'Ameraucana' are Easter Eggers. The hatchery started with some Ameraucana type birds and have cross bred them with other breeds to increase their production rate. Easter Eggers typically are much better layers than pure Ameraucana, but blue eggs are not guaranteed. They might lay blue, green, brown, white, or cream eggs.

Is an easter egger the same as an amerucauna? Or a mixed breed? Thanks!

Easter Eggers are hybrids produced by crossing blue egg layers with brown egg layers to produce offspring that lay eggs in colors other than just blue (olive, green, beige, and sometime pale pink). Hatcheries and feed stores frequently and incorrectly market their EEs under the labels Ameraucana or Araucana. There is a good article at http://www.the-chicken-chick.com/2011/09/ameraucana-easter-egger-or-araucana.html explaining the difference between Easter Eggers, true Ameraucanas, and true Araucanas.

Yes, this is definitely a roo. I've bought 12 chicks from someone who gotten them from Murray McMurray Hatchery - and had a rooster come out exactly like this. Amerucana features but an EE. He was all white and began getting a creamy coloration to his neck; and the same exact black speckles in his tail. Very pretty.
