I brought my wife a hyline chicken for Christmas. thought the coop was too small and went out and got a larger one.
Just as I put it together, we heard the sound distressed hen out in driveway.
So now we have 2 chickens. The 2nd is a brown shaver?
When they are both let out together in the back yard, they will front up and start to fight and peck each other.
    How can I stop this?
They are a real delight to have. The hyline is called Rosie and the brown shaver is Daphene.
They are laying eggs no problem[IMG]

Hello there and welcome to BYC! [IMG]

Sorry about your hens. This is no doubt a pecking order thing. The best way to introduce new birds to each other is from behind a cage. Keep the new bird in a cage in the coop and run with the other bird. Leave the new bird like this for about 3 or 4 weeks. Both see each other, but neither can touch the other. This gives them time to adjust to each other slower. You can't just throw new birds together without fighting and possible blood shed. So introduce them slowly. After several weeks you can mix them. They fighting should be minimal at this point. Put out extra water and feeding stations for a while so you know the new bird is getting something to eat.

Good luck and we do welcome you to our flock!

TwoCrows gave some good advice. It's just the pecking order and sooner or later they'll figure it out and all should be fine. [IMG]
