In my coop I have two broody hens in a separate area from my other chickens sharing nine chicks. When I went to check on them I saw one chick sitting in the middle of the coop were my non- broody hens are and it’s head was covered in blood.(it squeezed through the fence) At first I thought it was a goner, but after bringing it inside I noticed it’s wound beside the eye, and on the right side of its beak weren’t deep at all. It’s been acting very lively so I don’t want to kill it. The beak is now crooked and it’s one eye sometimes seals shut, but I’ve been giving it water by hand and it drinks a lot but not by itself. It’s not able to eat dry food yet but I was able to feed it egg white.
If you know how I can help this little guy I would greatly appreciate it. Right now I’ve been cleaning the area with salt water, and last night I gave it some aspirin water for the pain. I called a chicken vet and she said she could give me eye drops and ointment, but is there anything else I could do?
Also if you know of any foods I could try giving him that would be great!
Thanks so much!
