Just when I was ready to give up, Lucky Girl my broody Bantam who has been sitting on her pullet sisters eggs just hatched two chicks today. I filled the water bottle with electrolyte water figuring it would be good for her as well and put out the starter feed. Lucky did nibble on the fresh greens I put in her maternity ward. I thought I read somewhere that if you have two different breeds of chickens mating, the boys will take after the father and the girls will take after the mother. In other words, a Cochin Bantam rooster mates with a Pullet, all the boys will be Bantam Cochins and all the girls will be Pullets. Am I remembering this correctly? If so, I've found a great way to tell my boys from the girls right off the bat. But it seems to good to be true.
