Has anybody ever built a 2 story chicken coop before? Almost like its on shelves and the second story would have a ramp going down to a first story? We have a shed and we are trying to use the room inside of it a wisely as possible. Thanks!

The only thing I would think a two story coop would be good for, is if you wanted to keep two totally separate flocks. Like meaties on one level, and layers on another. If you had the two levels connected, all of the birds might just pile into one level. And, depending on the size of the two level/story coop, access for cleaning might be a real adventure.

Two issues with a multi-level coop; first is cleaning. That's just going to be a pain in the butt. Second would be ventilation. Both levels would need venting, and that can be tricky.

A covered run shielded from wind would be a much better use of time and materials.

They will have a decent size run to run around in. We were thinking long term we would split them into breeding pens. But we have to get started first. But I would be concerned about ventilation like junebuggena said. The shed we are putting them in used to be an old dog kennel shed for a breeder, so there is some ventilation, but idk if it would keep up with the chickens........ I'll have to do some thinking on this and see if anything will work better......
