Hey all! Yall don't know it but some of you helped save my Matilda from being eggbound and my Lilly chick from Coccidosis with the information provided in the forums I've been a chicken tender going on about 10 months now. It's definitely a learning experience!! Not quite what i thought it would be lol. Thanks for all the helpful information. Much much appreciated
I have a 2 month old Easter egger, Yetta, that's wheezing and coughing. No runny nose or swollen face/eyes. She's eating and drinking. Not quite as active as usual. She's my wildest one who usually wants NOTHING to do with me unless i have food in my hands. She's been stretching her neck out with open mouth breathing. I looked in her mouth and behind her tongue is a glob of whitish lumpy goo. I dont know what it is. Its hard to see in there even with the flash light. I want to remove it from her throat because i believe it may be what's clogging her airways. Im scared to try it cause I don't want to hurt her. She wiggles her head trying to get away. Idk if its stuck on there or if it can be wiped off. I gave her water with a syringe and looked again. Some of it moved but not much. I started her on some garlic acv water (their waterers always have acv in them).
Is there a special trick to get and keep her mouth open so I can try to get it out?? Anything in particular to use to remove goo from her throat? Qtip? Tweezers? Help!!!
Her poops range from normal green/brown with white cap to brown pudding like poop and others are clear liquid with a few chunks of brown poop. Their poops are NEVER consistent in shape/texture.
I recently treated them with corid for the Coccidosis. I treated 1 week, then regular water for a week. Then another round of corid for a week. They've been off corid about a week now. Could that have caused what's happening now?
She's in the house in a brooder cleaned out 2x a week with 4 other chicks and everyone else seems fine. I was taking them outside every day so they can roam around for an hour or so but i haven't since the Coccidosis outbreak. I can't leave them out as we're currently expanding the run and adding another coop and I cant put them in the pen with the hens. Should be finished this weekend or next.
Sorry if I may have missed any info to give you. If anyone has any advice or idea of what's causing the stuff in her throat, im all ears/eyes!
