Guys,

Everyone kept telling me that Rouen and Cayuga waterfowl don't fly...

Well my Rouen maybe a mallard I get that. He's only 4 months old. My Cayuga is a Cayuga no mistaking that. The other day he/she flew across my yard and landed very well and smooth at the height of around 7-8'. She has been fling into the pin which is about only 4' off the ground. The other ducks take the ramp. I think because of the size (Small) she is a female. She makes absolutely no noise except a whimper/squeak. I thought Cayuga's couldn't fly...does anyone else's Cayuga's fly??

Thanks!

How big is your Rouen/Mallard? Our Mallards are very small, probably around 2-3 lbs. All our ducks fly to some extent, but thankfully, domesticated duck breeds will not fly away the way wild ducks such as Mallards do. What we do to keep our Mallards at home is to clip their flight feathers when they start getting long. I wouldn't worry about your Cayuga actually flying away from your property.
