Hi, we've got a 2 week old chick from a kindy hatching program that can't walk.

At first we thought it was splayed legs, but splinting them didn't make an improvement.
The chicks feet seem quite flaccid and don't grab anything, and it shuffles around on it's elbows most of the time.
It also has quite a poopy butt, and is a lot smaller than the other 3 chicks.

Photo attached, any assistance is appreciated.

Can you post a picture of it's butt? It might have pasty butt but I want to be sure. As for not being able to walk, maybe it has a vitamin deficiency? What are you feeding the chicks?

Thanks for your reply.

It's an excessively poopy butt and the discharge is clear and runny. We've tried the usual pasty butt remedies but they only seem to make it worse.

After a lot of research we're thinking it may actually be Runting Stunting Syndrome, which is characterised by rickets, leg deformities, diarrhoea, pale feet and stunted growth. The poor chick is at least 1/4 the size of it's siblings.

We're just assessing what to do as it's quality of life at present is fairly low, and it's outlook doesn't look good without ever being able to walk.
