I have 31 RIR and 12 Silkie chicks, and 3 ducklings, all about the same age, housed together. They have dry bedding that is replaced every week but fresh bedding is added. Wet bedding is removed, the waterer is also elevated slightly on some shelving material to keep the water cleaner, and the chicks don't step on soggy bedding. While cleaning out the bedding today, I gave everyone a look over to make sure they were doing good, and everyone WAS doing good, except I was concerned by the sight of this chick's foot, having had to recently put down my beloved Cornish X hen due to bumblefoot......

None of the other chicks have this, the yellowy areas are very firm, and the scales seem to have grown out like hair. Doesn't seem to be bumblefoot, but who knows? The miscoloured and hard area looks like scales from the foot that grew long....

I don't know if the image properly attached, I'm on mobile, if it didn't I'll edit it in ASAP or next post has the images...

Can you try to repost the image?

Without seeing it, it's hard to say what might be going on.

None of the other chicks have any discolouration like this on their feet.....

Anyone? It's all over its feet, but mainly in the centre of the right foot. Does this look like bumblefoot??? The only bumblefoot I've dealt with had a large black scab, but I'm sure it can manifest itself in different ways... Or is it just calluses???? I'm really concerned and I can't find anything on this! Again, the hard yellow bits seem to be the scales on the bottom of the feet that grew out like hair.

Have you soaked the feet and gently scrubbed them with a soft brush to see if the scales loosen or soften a bit?

I soaked the feet in hot/warm water for 7 or 10 minutes then massaged then with my fingers.... I'll give another go with a sponge/scrubby though! Thank you

Looking a bit better? 15 minute soak then gentle scrub with the green side of a dish sponge, then rinse.... What do you think?? It has little spots of it on it's toes too...

I think it does look a bit better.
Did it seem like anything "came off" in the water?
Did you do both or just one?

Did both feet, nothing came off, just seemed to clean it up a bit. The discoloured areas felt....rubbery??? Should I continue to soak the feet in hot/warm water frequently and gentle scrub? I'm just worried that it may hurt the feet, soften them up and stuff, open them up to infection, or maybe even make whatever this is worse!!! I can't find anything like this online!!! :(
