2 year old hen losing feathers

    Hi everyone. My two year old hen has been losing some feathers on her head and body. I first noticed this about two weeks ago (she hasn't laid an egg since then either). It looks like she's "going bald" on her head, and this week I noticed empty patches on her shoulders. I don't think the other chickens are pecking her, b/c there's no blood and she has been at the top of the pecking order. Also, when I pick her up, a few feathers fall out.

    Any ideas? Is she molting? She has never molted before, but December in New England seems like a bad time to do that. I feed them regular egg layer pellet and give them snacks every couple days, like leftover vegetables, meal worms, etc. The other chickens seem fine, let me know your thoughts!

    She's picked a bad time of year to molt - it happens with some.
