Upstate NY. Last week was in the 90’s 80’s this week. I’ve had them for 2 weeks now. Very skittish, stay indoors unless I shoo them to outside portion of the penAll pullets.
How warm is it? Heat can affect laying.
Must be why. New area, they’ll lay in about 2-4 weeks usuallyUpstate NY. Last week was in the 90’s 80’s this week. I’ve had them for 2 weeks now. Very skittish, stay indoors unless I shoo them to outside portion of the pen
Yes feeding layer feed. Thanks for the input!I think mine started around 20-21. But once they started producing it was worth the wait. I have 4 and 2 are skittish (even though I raised from chicks) but 2 are friendly. One is currently raising chicks. Make sure they have a full nutritional feed. Do you have them on layer feed?
Thanks! They're pullets. You read a lot about when they're supposed to lay but it varies a lot from bird to bird, especially with a recent move.
We have several different breeds and have seen layers start from 18 to 30 weeks, with some differences even between pullets of the same type.
I'd bet they're laying machines once they start, though. Hope it's soon!
Are you positive their golden comets they could be Isa browns in which case the start of lay is 20-24 weeks a lot of people think they're the same chicken just a sex-link hybrid but golden comets start laying at 16 weeks, but that does mean they always will, golden comets also are supposed to lay 330+ where as Isa Browns lay 300+ again could be different for each hen. If your sure they are golden conets, just give it a little more time could take couple more weeks. As long as your giving them some form of calcium like crushed oyster or egg shells you should be good
