I have a 23 week old buff Orpington that gets extremely loud in the morning lately. She wasn't always so loud and chatty in the morning. She has not started laying eggs yet either. I'm wondering if she's getting so chatty because she's about to start laying or if this behavior is because of something different. We live in the suburbs with our neighbors close so my husbands afraid my one noisy chicken is going to have all my girls taken from us because my neighbors might complain. So I'm wondering if I should re-home her or not.

My gut says that she is getting ready to lay. Once she starts laying, she may settle back down - or not. Hopefully the first scenario is the one that she will go with. Good luck.

I hope that's her problem. She's one of my favorite and I'd rather keep her than finding a new home for her.

My BO pullets (x2) started cackling and screaming a few days before they started laying.

2 months later, not much has changed, but for the fact that I get eggs from them!

They are still very vocal. Much more so than my RIR's.

One has now gone broody though so she may quieten down for a while.

I love their little egg songs, but I can understand that not everyone does.

I have no advice, just wanted to say good luck. Krista
