Three out of four of my speckled Sussex pullets still show no sign of laying eggs. The one that is laying has been doing so for 2-3 weeks now. I know shorter days are starting but I'm also in NC so we've had no cold weather at this point. Is this just normal for this breed? I also purchased a barred rock chick at the same time I got my specked Sussex chicks and she's also been laying for a couple of weeks now.

Do they have red combs/wattles and have you noticed any egg-laying behavior, like squatting? Make sure you're feeding them a good layer feed, with oyster shell grit supplemented. I did some quick research and some say that they sometimes lay later on--maybe 8-9 months. Hope they start laying soon! :)
