2nd annual Salem Oregon coop tour July 21st 10am-4pm

This is a self-guided tour that features 10 backyard chicken coops within the city of Salem, all located within an 10-mile radius. Many include beautiful gardens as well. You will see a variety of coop styles and different chicken breeds. This is a great way to get some ideas for what might work in your backyard or if you can't decide what breed to get. If you already have chickens it's a great way to meet other chicken people, share your knowledge, and become involved in fun chicken activities.

Owners are present to answer all your questions. Feel free to take pictures. At just $8 per vehicle it is a fun and inexpensive family activity and proceeds support our annual Habitat for Hens project.

Tickets are booklets with color pictures of each of the featured coops and descriptions. There is a detailed map with directions to follow a suggested route -- or you can go any way you wish. It's fun to start off at Coop Tour Headquarters (Stop #1 on the map) for fun kick-off activities, refreshments, and a chance to meet Author, Gretchen Anderson, then continue on the tour as suggested.

You can visit any or all of the 10 coops in the booklet and spend as much or as little time at each one as you like. Oftentimes, children can feed the chickens through the wire fencing.
