What can I use in a residential area to keep predators away? Obviously I can't shoot them.....although I'm wishing I could. My little flock of laying hens have turned into my pets, and I'm heartbroken to lose a second hen. =(

I have feral cats, raccoons, skunks, AND possums in the area. My hens are put into a locked coop from dusk to dawn (my husband calls it putting the girls to bed. LOL) they have a run that is fenced on, and covered with bird netting. Last night four of my hens were outside the fenced area, and the 5th hen had been killed. Most of her meat was still on her, and there wasn't a TON of bodily damage, mostly to her neck and chest.

Any ideas are appreciated. I'm a sad chicken lady today.

Double check all possible openings and reinforce. I agree with electric fencing and fencing with smaller openings if possible. It can help deter something from climbing over the sides or trying to attack through holes. This morning I saw snake tracks in the covered portion of the run. Its scary to see evidence of a predator being around
