I recently had four hens start laying. For a week now, we have been getting large oblong eggs with two yolks. Why does this happen? Is there something I am doing wrong or not doing that I should? We think of it as a two~fer kinda thing and enjoy it. Is this breed specific. I think it's either a black Australorp or a Red sex link.

Thank you for any advice and help in advance!

It is most likely the red sex link. They are a hybrid breed created for egg laying. I too have a red sex link that lays double yolked eggs from time to time. Not all sex links will lay a double yolked eggs, but its normal and very common for one to lay a double yolked egg.
