I bought a new batch of bantam chicks. I tried a different hatchery...chickens for backyards... and at 6 weeks I am pretty confident in saying 3/8 chicks I ordered are crockerels. 3 barred rocks appear to be Roos out of 5. That's a REALLY bad sex selecting percentage.[IMG] Anybody else have experience with this hatchery? I should have stuck with MPC.

The 3 in question are super grey and have significantly bigger combs. The 2 girls are way more blackish and have tiny combs....Grrrr.

    Thoughts anyone?

Also, how to sex 6 week old RIR with pics please? Thank you!

The birds in the first three pics are cockerels. The other 2 look like pullets. I've never heard of that hatchery before. Did you get sexed pullets?

Argh. I was hoping I would be wrong. Yes, sexed pullets. I just posted my RIR chicks from same hatchery. I have no clue in regard to those chicks as this is my first time with RIRs.

3 out of 8 and you ordered pullets. I'd be making a phone call for sure!!

Yes, those aren't good odds at all, but other than My Pet Chicken, I wasn't aware that any hatchery sold sexed bantams.

Yes, they sell sexed bantams but, apparently, not accurately!

    From their website:

Are you sure they are bantams? Those chicks look a bit big for 6 weeks. To me, they look like Large fowl barred rocks.

Yeah, positive. I have raised chicks for years just not these breeds. They're bantams! [IMG]

I've heard of them, but never ordered because their website looks sketchy.

Ok, it's a bit hard to tell from the pictures. [IMG]
