I'm completely new to turkeys here, and still unsure as to when and how (and the science behind) to tell. :) Been reading from a few different sources now that it's sometimes possible to decide based on head shape and size of snood bump (is that what it's called?), while others feel it's best to wait things out. I've been noticing my Bourbon Red has a much larger, squared head, and more pronounced snood in comparison with the Royal Palm's triangular head and tiny snood. Perhaps this is due to the fact they're different varieties? Any opinions for a novice like me? :D

Usually 3 weeks is way too young to sex poults. A much more educated guess can be made around 3 months. Tom's tend to be overall larger, more square head, larger snood and caruncles.

When I had my 3 children, I knew their gender before they arrived so this experience of trying to guess and waiting to see has been quite comical! Of the 6 chickens, I’m fairly sure I have 1 of each breed cockerels, and 1 rir that i’m still not sure. from the turkeys behavior, so far, my guess is that I have 2 toms and 1 hen.
