I had a not so successful hatch out of 18 silkie eggs 2 have survived. One has been yawning a lot and pecking/scratching its tail feathers. (Started today) Ive read some about gape worm but am unsure if they can be born with it?? They have clean water and currently temp is 90 in brooder. They seem comfortable except the one doing the yawning scratching thing? Please help im desperate to save these last two babies :(

Newly hatched chicks can not have gapeworm. If your chicks are eating, drinking and acting otherwise normally, there is nothing to worry about. Good luck with them.

One is laying with his head down and very lethargic now? The other is still "yawning" but shaking itshead and scratching at Is mouth? Also has runny poop but ive noticed the one with runny poop is the one drinking a lot. If its not gape worm could it be a genetic thing thats killed most all my babies? they've never been outside so im not sure what they could have???
