I'm starting to get concerned with one of the baby chicks who hatched about 4 days ago.

She was hatched in an incubator and we moved her to our brooder/cage, and shes still not standing. i can see her struggle and try to move but shes not having any luck.

when i pick her up i see the joint (elbow?) is very red. she can move her leg well when im holding her and her toes curl, but when shes back in the cage she cant move. Her legs are also turned to the side - she cant naturally straighten them. would this be normal and will develop or could she have been born with it

What would be the best ground for her? shes on hay at the minuite but would a harder ground be easier for her?

I'm going to separate her from the other two who have recently hatched as they sometimes stand on her head and peck at her beak. the other two chickens are perfectly normal [one chick hatched yesterday and is in better health than this poor little girl..]

my mother is also feeding her and making her drink..

What should i do? the vets in the area cant help as they dont know about chickens

Is the chick "flipping" over? I had one that everytime she tried to move, she flipped on her back.

shes not so much flipping over, its like shes crawling on her joints, she sometimes flipped over yesterday but that was cause it was a little downhill and she fell in a corner. shes on flat gound now. i flipped her over earlier and she can move her legs, just not when shes the right way up...

I had a chick named Billy who had that problem.
Here is some things you can try.
You could put some tape on his legs where you think they are making him not walk. Or, try making himm a really narrow box just enough for the chick to move forward and backward. We did both and that chick was healed from his leg prob. I hope it's the same for you!!!

Is he able to reach his food and water by himself?

Try doing a search here on the forum. I don't think your problem is that uncommon.

Also, try giving some Polyvisol Baby Vitamins(without iron) in the water-just to try to jump start the chick.

    thanks [IMG]
I'll try the tape and box thing, and the food and water is low enough for her to get to.

Where can i get the Polyvisol Baby Vitamins from? i've done a search online and i cant find anywhere in the UK who does it..

i've been searching and from what i saw people said to euthanase her and that they might not make it..do you think thats true?

    thanks
